Skin Cancer Clinic
Our clinic provides comprehensive care for skin cancer, including initial skin and mole checks, sun spot screening, diagnosis, preventive advice, and a range of treatment options. Where appropriate, surgical procedures for skin cancer removal may also be performed.
Some procedures can be carried out in the clinic, while others may be performed in a private hospital setting if sedation or other specialist care is required.
Skin Cancer in Australia
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. According to SunSmart Australia, more than one in two Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime.
This is why early detection and prevention are important. Regular skin checks can help identify changes in moles or other spots on the skin so that appropriate care can be provided.
Sun Safety and Prevention
The Cancer Council Victoria recommends five key steps to help protect against sun damage, particularly between September and April, and especially during the middle of the day when UV levels are highest:
- Wear protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.
- Apply SPF30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen before going outdoors and reapply every two hours.
- Wear a hat that shades your face, head, neck, and ears.
- Seek shade wherever possible, particularly during peak UV hours.
- Wear sunglasses that meet Australian Standards to protect your eyes.
These steps can help reduce the risk of sun-related skin damage, including sunburn and long-term harm such as premature aging and certain types of skin cancer.
When to Seek Medical Attention
You should see a qualified health professional if you notice:
- A new or changing mole or spot
- A mole that changes in colour, size, or shape
- A sore that does not heal
- Any unusual growths, lumps, or changes in the skin
Early assessment by a doctor can help determine whether further investigation or treatment is needed.
