Hymen repair or hymenoplasty is a procedure to reconstruct or repair a torn hymen. This does not make you a virgin, but helps you appear as a virgin.

When is hymen repair indicated?

Hymen repair is requested by women who have torn their hymen and wish to appear as a virgin before marriage. There are many reasons for a woman tearing her hymen:

  • Sexual intercourse
  • Congenital deformities
  • Sexual abuse
  • Trauma
  • Use of tampons
  • Horse riding

How is hymen repair performed?

Hymen repair is performed under local anaesthesia. Your surgical practitioner uses the vaginal wall to create a skin flap, which acts as a hymen. Sometimes, remnants of the torn hymen remain. These are overlapped and stitched.

What are the risks of hymen repair?

As with any surgery, hymen repair may involve certain risks and complications which include bleeding, infection or scarring.
