Anti-wrinkle Reduction

What are anti-wrinkle reductions?

Anti-wrinkle reduction treatments are natural purified protein complex, which temporarily but powerfully relaxes muscles, and hence smoothen and reduce the intensity of wrinkle lines. Natural proteins are used to grow this compound in the laboratory and packaged in vials for general use. Therapeutic Good Administration (TGA) prohibits the use of more popular names for anti-wrinkle injections therefore will not be mentioned here.

Anti-wrinkle reduction is the most common minimally invasive anti-aging cosmetic procedure performed worldwide. It has been used in the past 30 years for a number of different indications with a good safety profile. In the hands of a qualified cosmetic practitioner with a thorough understanding of the facial anatomy, it can effectively stop the signs of aging while maintaining a natural, softer and younger look.

How do anti-wrinkle reductions work?

Anti-wrinkle reduction works by blocking the nerve impulses, which leads to relaxed muscle activity.

Wrinkles are formed by continuous facial muscle movement beneath the skin, causing appearance of creases and folding on the surface of the skin. Without treatment, these fine lines become deepened and permanent regardless of you moving the facial muscle.

Anti-wrinkle reduction treatment relaxes facial muscle contraction thereby slowing down the aging process and keeping wrinkles under control.

For instance, they can be used on the forehead to relax forehead wrinkles, frown muscles to smoothen frown lines, and area around the eyes to prevent the appearance of crows feet. There are many other uses of anti-wrinkle treatment, which will be discussed in the link here

It is important to understand that the action of the anti-wrinkle reduction treatments do not occur immediately. Usually the maximum effect can be seen after a couple of weeks. The first effects begin to show as little as 2 days after treatment and last for up to 3 to 4 months depending on the strength of the muscles treated and the dosages used. Periodic follow-up treatments can help maintain the effects for a longer period of time.

What are the most common areas on the face that can be treated with anti-wrinkle reduction?

Anti-wrinkle reduction treatment can be used on the forehead (forehead lines), glabella (frown lines), around the eyes (crow’s feet), eyebrows (eyebrow lift), nose (bunny lines, drooping nose tip and dilated nostrils), nasolabial fold, cheeks (cheek lines), lips (gummy smile, upper and lower lip wrinkling, downturned mouth), Marionette lines, chin (cobblestone chin), neck (neck bands).

Anti-wrinkle reduction can also be used to reduce the squareness of the lower half of the face by reducing the size of the masseter muscle, which runs along the side of the jaw.

What are the risks and side effects of anti-wrinkle reduction?

Anti-wrinkle reduction is generally considered a low-risk procedure. In rare instances, bruising can appear on the treated area which normally disappear within a few days and can also be easily concealed by applying light make-up. At times, there can be some transient small red areas with tiny swellings over the injected areas, which normally resolve within a few hours.

Sometimes when treating area around the eyes, the product can inadvertently diffuse to the muscles that open the eyelids. This is reported to occur up to approximately one percent (1 out of 100 patients) of the cases and can result to relaxation of the eyelid muscles, which can make your eyelid look droopy. This temporary effect can last for up to one month and will resolve naturally.

Other adverse possible outcomes include persistence of wrinkles (which usually result from under dosing), facial asymmetry, droopy corner of the mouth (product diffusing to adjacent facial muscles) and “frozen” appearance (which usually result from over dosing).

We provide clear pre and post procedure instructions to minimise these risks. These instructions include not touching or rubbing the injection area; avoiding vigorous exercises and hot showers immediately after treatment; and avoiding anti-inflammatory medications and heavy alcohol intake prior to and immediately after the treatment.

How long do anti-wrinkle reduction treatment last?

The duration of anti-wrinkle reduction generally lasts for about 3 to 4 months but may vary depending on different individuals, dosing and area of the treatment and application. Periodic follow-up treatments can help maintain the effects for a longer period of time.

How is anti-wrinkle reduction performed?

All treatments at Restore Cosmetic are performed by Dr. Xu with more than 30 years of experience in cosmetic medicine and surgery. After reviewing your treatment goals, Dr. Xu will clean the treatment sites with alcohol and provide ice packs or topical anaesthetic to help you prepare for procedure.

Through a very thin needle to inject precisely into the muscles responsible for forming the wrinkles you wish to reduce. It normally takes 10 minutes to complete the treatment procedure. You can return to normal daily activities immediately after treatment, although you may experience some post-procedure redness, tenderness, or bruising around the treatment site. These side effects, if they occur, are typically mild and resolve spontaneously within a day or two after treatment.

Most patients experience a noticeable improvement within a few days after anti-wrinkle treatments, and results continue to gradually improve over the next few weeks.

The muscle function becomes more relaxed. Long standing skin creases will soften and may eventually disappear. The final results will be a softer, more relaxed and pleasing appearance.
