Tear Troughs Treatment

Mid Face

What are tear troughs?
Tear troughs are depressed areas of loose skin running from your nose along the lower eyelids. They may appear bagged or hollowed with dark circles or wrinkles. Tear troughs give your face a tired appearance.

What causes tear troughs?
Tear troughs are usually caused due to genetics, lifestyle, and lack of sleep or may be a part of the ageing process, however it can be more pronounced in some. Sagging of skin usually results from loss of facial fat in the cheek and under-eye area, or from loose ligaments.

How are tear troughs treated?
Tear troughs may be treated by injecting a dermal filler into the depressed area above the bony eye socket and massaging it into the fatty tissues to fill in the loose skin and hollow areas, and conceal dark circles. The entire procedure takes about 1 hour to complete. The procedure is painless as the filler contains an anesthetic. About 1 ml of filler is usually sufficient for both eyes and your doctor will ensure that it evenly distributed, giving your eyes a natural healthy appearance. The procedure is minimally invasive and does not produce scars.

Are you a candidate for tear troughs treatment?
You are a good candidate for tear trough treatment if you are worried about the appearance of your tear troughs and are in good overall health.

What are the complications or side effects of the procedure?
As with most aesthetic procedures, tear trough treatment may be associated with certain complications such as redness, bruising, tenderness and swelling, which usually resolves on its own and may be easily concealed with makeup. Sometimes, lumps can form under the skin as the filler accumulates in certain regions. This can be managed by light massaging or it will eventually get reabsorbed into the skin.

How long do the results last?
The results are immediate and may last from 6 months to 3 years. You may require a second or third session to enhance the results.
